Having just repainted two Postwar Lionel FA's into the maroon freight scheme it occurred to me that if Lionel had done this for me, it would have saved me a lot of work. A lot of discussion here and elsewhere has been on the creaking issue of the NYC, PRR, SP etc being the preselected choices we are offered, but in redoing this paint scheme, I wanted to see ( of course) if anyone else had produced this maroon scheme or what other engine schemes were produced per road as the Rock had many schemes, and I found only one.
Why do we have only one scheme , generally speaking, per road? I started a thread in real railroads and the number of schemes per road was frankly surprising. In these days of automation, why are we seeing the same scheme on road engines ad nauseum? Most be some kind of laziness in thinking as to what sells as would there not be more business if the same engine had several schemes? Williams does some in a variety..thats about all that comes to mind.
