On a long trip away today I was thinking about new products that would be really neat for Lionel to put out. One that really stuck out was if Lionel went in the same vein as the Postwar scale freight cars, and dressed some scale passenger consists in Postwar styling. An 18" Aluminum set of cars in the green 2400 scheme would be awesome, maybe even go all out and reintroduce the scale turbine in the all-black 671 postwar look to make the #2140WS set in full scale. They're doing this with the postwar scale diesels as it is, and also with the 50th Anniversary set back in 2001 (which was to honor the 1950 2148WS 773 set).

So what say you? Yay or nay?

Now, you need us rivet-counters (or rivet-approximators, in my case) to keep things real,
or at least as real as the un-real can be. (Mr.J.L. Cowen was a rivet-counter, you know -
the 700E tender rivet count was important to him.)

The scale Turbine/PW-style set sounds very appealing, especially if I were a Pennsy fan. But, plenty of those guys around to buy it. I bought the scale J3/"Lionel Lines" set at auction/buy-
it-now a couple of years ago (I did not get "a deal") and was very impressed.

The PRR's 6-8-6 "battleship" is truly impressive - even in PW tiny versions.
I'd love to see the set produced, though my budget will still tend toward the NYC direc-
tion.

This entire philosophy of modern scale items/sets done with PW style and looks is
pretty intriguing in general (pricey, though). I'm sure other sets could be emulated,
also.

Has any model company made a scale PRR S2 yet?  I am all for the idea, but wonder why no one has taken on the challenge if the answer to my first question is "no." Preston Cook's article in the current issue of Classic Trains spells out a lot of the dimensional data of this locomotive.  It's wheel base is 108 feet and would require a wide radius track.  Not a big deal for most of our scale modelers.

I like the idea of bringing back the green color on a more accurately scaled passenger set.
