Been reading the many posts on this forum for some time and have developed a great respect for the knowledge and helpfulness of the members.  After many years of longing to get my childhood Lionel up and running I finally got the basement cleared out and joined the forum so I could take advantage of interacting with members.  Began an ambitious project to run my postwar trains.  Up to now I would put my first set (a 675 with 2442& 2443 passenger cars) up around the Christmas tree every year and remember when my Grandfather gave it to me in 1947.  Hopefully, when this project is done, I will be able to run all of my postwar at once and my granddaughter will enjoy it with me.

Also want to give a shout out to John at TK Hobbies - thanks to some posted recommendations I dealt with him to purchase track and switches.  He lived up to my expectations - good price, excellent service, quick delivery and he formerly worked in the Summit train store where I had my father's prewar 253 repaired.

I will post progress as I go along and will certainly post when seeking advice.

lundelane:  Looks like you've got a nice start on a pretty ambitious project.  Keep us posted on how it progresses.  Also, realize that if this is your first major train layout, there are going to be mis-steaks and "woulda, shoulda done it different" but that's OK, too.  Live and learn, and plan to do some things differently the next time around.

Main thing is that you ARE doing something and we all cheer you on.

Welcome aboard. Looks like your off to a fine start! My only comments would be going by pic 1- I'd suggest dropping the quad outlet on the RH wall down under the benchwork{won't get in the way of any backdrop then and will be accessable under the bench} and give yourself enough room by the humidifier to move the lever.

So, what are you going to power it all with?
