FOR TODAY: " It's apple season and barrels of apples are going to market.  These apples have been thoroughly inspected and there is not a bad apple in any barrel."

Claude Wills  waits for the forklift operator to return and snag another barrel.  While waiting he thinks about all the wonderfully delicious  apple pies that will be baked with these apples. IMG_3430

Buzz Klomfurt, the forklift operator, gets some assistance from Dooley Giddings. IMG_3421

It will take many truck loads to fill this reffer car.  IMG_3418

Sorry guys, I haven’t been on here much in the last two weeks. I sold the race car and was getting it ready for the new owner from Indiana. However, I did purchase another Woodland Scenics building and have figured out where I will install this one and the new diner. It will be a great winter project. Guys, keep this discussion and pictures related to our hobby of O gauge trains.  Real cars, trucks, etc. belong on a forum that has been created for that purpose.  We are getting far too many alerts on this thread about how it goes off topic.  If you want to discuss memories of your cars and trucks with forum members, then do so via their profile email addresses.  We pay for page views and want topics to be "on track".

Thanks

Here's some photos for today. Today I was on my way home from Home Depot, so I decided to stop at the Santa Clara, CA Train Station (Silicon Valley). Pretty dead in the middle of the afternoon, but I took a couple of photos of the old train station that houses the SBHRS (South Bay Historical Railroad Society). Inside is a museum with old railroad equipment from back when and two model train layouts, one is HO and the other is N scale. Next to the station under restoration is a Pullman Observation Coach, Oregon-Washington Railroad & Navigation Company. Then a F40PH-2-CAT #906 rolled in with 5 Nippon Sharyo passenger cars heading south into San Jose. The CAT is for the Caterpillar 6-cylinder HEP generator in #906. CalTrain also has 5 F40PH-2 screamers (gear driven HEP running of the main power plant), so they are always running at 900 rpm!

Not the best pictures, super bright day and it was difficult on my phone. Poor old #906 is showing its age!

Looking Northwest.

Notice the brand new power lines above the track, by the end of 2022 all the F40's, Nippon Sharyo and Bombardier passenger cars will be replaced with brand new electric locomotives with passenger consist sets. On the other side of the train is a small UP yard about a mile long and 4 sidings if I remember right. Looking Southeast; behind me about a block away is the City of Santa Clara Police Station right next to the CalTrain and UP tracks. UP parks their locomotives next the the Police Station to avoid vandalism. There weren't any UP locomotives parked there today unfortunately.

FOR TODAY: This morning as Chucky zooms down the driveway on his bike, Chucky makes a snap decision to skip school ( AGAIN ! ).   Instead of making a right out of the driveway and following his usual route to school, he banks a hard left which takes him to the rail yard.  As he rode his bike up the dirt lane leading to the yard, Chucky caught this view of a Western Maryland Consolidation taking on water.  He squints his eyes, and to his surprise he sees his Uncle Ephraim, a fireman for the WM, standing on the tender's deck.  Chucky figures he better stay back here in the bushes for a while until the Consolidation  has departed.  Chucky knows that if he is spotted by Uncle E the outcome will not be good ... for Chucky's mom will be getting a phone call from Uncle E as soon as a telephone comes available.    At this instant Chucky wishes he were on that elevated trolly, with a good view of the rail yard and out of possible view of Uncle E.  Chucky smiles to himself as he knows that in another five or ten minutes the Consolidation will have departed and then he's home free!  fullsizeoutput_22e

Great story and pix Pat'.. Chuckie, reminds me of of my youth... I played hooky a few times'... 6th grade'.  Instead of the truant officer, the school principle, Ben Tabachnik, came to the house.... That ended my truancy until high school....😁

Afternoon guys, I hope everyone is doing well and is ready for fall! First off great scenes everyone!

Patrick, Sure hope everyone was able to get on the last train! If not maybe they could go over and help the fire department polish and shine the engines! If they don't feel like community service then they should just walk across the street to the church and pray that they wont need them!  As for Chucky he should have went on to school! What surprises me is that the red Ford is still in the brush! I know a lot of people that would take it and fix it up!

FarmerJohn, Great scene and its so nice that you were able to provide housing for the round house crew!

Scott, great photos! I didn't even know about Oregon-Washington RR & Navigation Co!

No train or model train shots.

I was in Florida visiting my elderly parents and taking care of a bunch of issues. There's a short line there which had bought the former CSX main. Of course I didn't see a single train all week.

The only photos I got were in and out of DFW along the way as well as some of the best sights on the grounds of Florida State University, my Alma mater...

I missed my wife and my adorable little pup, but I equally missed my layout...

Thanks very much Ted!

I never played hooky because my dad and my mom would have beat my bottom good .. not to mention having to deal with my elementary school principal .... but you can betcha that every time I heard the horn of that GP7 pulling the local freight into town I would be thinking about just busting out of that school and running down to the railroad tracks ... lol!

Lee, openly expressing that "equally" part has caused much misery for married model train enthusiasts, LOL!  Of course, for myself, I would have also missed my layout, but not nearly as much as i missed my wife - not even close. I would probable peg it at 10,000 times more missing the wife than the layout.   Got that, honey? Just in case my better half is reading this.

Dallas Joseph,  Outstanding photos! But it really doesn't say much about Santa's helpers work ethic as he needing so many! LOL

Mike......you gotta watch the Polar Express movie 🤓  Maybe Santa has a lot more orders for train layouts this year.

You were also military Mike......you know how many helpers SAM needed of his nephews and nieces. 😁
