It's a good one Mike .......even some good life lessons in it.                If you are like me  ( πŸ™ƒ) you have to watch it several times over a period of time to catch everything thats going on.

FYI, The wife and I just watched Polar Express for the first time ever! You are very correct it's a good movie for all ages and everyone can pickup some lessons from it! Thanks for bring it up for me to watch!

FOR TODAY:  Heading westward ... two GG1's, 4890 & 4876, and a cabin car running lite.  MOW crew pays no attention because to them it's ..... just another day on the railroad. fullsizeoutput_1d6

Patrick wonderful photo and best of all you made me learn something form the photo and story! I had never heard the term cabin car. So I had to look it up and now I know something new!

You not only have a wonderful layout with Amazing stories everyday! In my eyes you have a great way of teaching! I wish more teachers were like you!

Glad you watched the movie and liked it.   ( did you notice how many elves Mike ? ) πŸ˜‰

@mike g. Thanks you so very much for your very kind words.  Much appreciated!  I'm happy you were able to learn about "cabin cars" .... as is the term the Pennsy reffered to regarding their caboose fleet.   Although I am a teacher of music , I've never thought of myself in the teaching capacity here on the OGR Forum, however, in reading your post I began to think about it and I really think that everyone here on the OGR Forum are teachers ... as we teach each other through our various posts.

I would really like one day to get a Union Pacific 4-8-4 from MTH as I run DCS on my layout. I bought one and put it on the track and it just smoked, the seller gave me a full refund. But blew the money on other things for the layout! LOL

Was the one that smoked a ps2 or ps3 Dave ?

I bought this one from my dealer some time ago . It is a ps3  Imperial Railking.......  I've had no problem with it overall ..........   The tender gave me fits on my 8 line yard when I had to have the engine in reverse.......its only 30 inches wide so I had to have 031 swithes for each line off of the main in the yard and the 10 wheel rigid arraingment on the tender had to have some work.

ps. Do you think any of the many Santa's helpers might have let Santa know of your need ?  πŸ€”

Patrick, wonderful photo of an old work horse! I just goes to show that even with a little dirt and grime, maybe even a little gray strong is strong and just keeps going!

Joseph, it was a PS2. I told Santa's helper and she said maybe, it all depends as were on a fixed income right now. But I am gathering things to sell to see if I can reach that goal!

I sure hope Santa's helper comes through for you Mike.

We too are on fixed incomes .  Things would have worked out for train purchases if we wouldn't have had so many surprise expenditures for the house and vehicles this year.

Ill have a little conversation with the Higher Power for your financial assist. πŸ›

Guess so, I never seen Polar Express movie! Maybe tonight!

Hi Mike,

The Polar Express is how I got started in model railroading again! I bought the Lionel Polar Express set in 2007 and still have the coaches with upgraded LED lighting. I did replace the Polar Express Berkshire loco with the new one, the LionChief Plus 2.0 from the 2019 Catalog.

Definitely check out the movie and the book!

FOR TODAY:  Early this morning ... Brakeman Ernie Krebbs stands on the rear step of an old workhorse B&O Docksider as it creeps backward to pickup a string of freight cars.  Having been out in the elements for several decades this venerable locomotive keeps on chugging!  IMG_1963

Patrick, that is one great scene...the lighting is perfect, and the weathering job on the switcher is superb!

FOR TODAY:  A morning glance at the yard this morning shows a B&O dominance  with wagon top boxcars, a piggyback trailer, and SW1000 switcher.  "Those who know ship the B&O!" IMG_1929

Patrick, if that scene doesn't look real...the sky backdrop makes me want to apply suncreen...your rail yards remind of the early days, as a kid, sneaking down to the tracks and thinking how 'huge" are those box cars

Why thank you so much Paul!   Yes I loved sneaking down to the tracks too as a kid.   Agreed, those boxcars seemed "huge" and they were only the 40 footers too

Remember when applying sun screen ... make sure it is at least SPF 30 or above and zinc based ... just sayin

F058DC3F-A328-405B-95CF-8A5EEAA3FE64Hi everyone. Wife and I are on a long overdue vacation in Holland. Thought you might enjoy what passes for a coal hopper here on the Rhine River. These boys move coal and other minerals up and down the river. This guy is about 100 ft long with two large open bays.   Crew usually family that live in a small apartment behind the pilot house. Anyway not exactly trains but similar work.  Thought you might find it interesting.

Scott, wonderful looking Polar Express Berkshire! I wonder if MTH makes one?

Patrick, Outstanding scene! I can tell from what's going on it's going to be a busy day! As for the hike up the hill to see the small RR if it was me after all that work I would keep going! But that's me speaking as a kid! LOL

Paul, Now that there looks like a great party! I bet the engineers are wishing they were off work to be able to join!

Hi Mike, I’m sure MTH must have a Berkshire model, but Lionel holds the license for The Polar Express, and MTH does not. So are you locked into MTH DCS and don’t have TMCC or Legacy? FYI - Lionel offers The Polar Express in O semi scale and scale, G scale and S Gauge. O β€œscale” is not offered in every Lionel catalog, but semi scale and G scale are.

Hi Scott, I just run DCS or conventional. No TMCC or Legacy. Heck I don't even own a Lionel command engine.

Don, are you doing a Rhine River cruise on a long boat, or just hanging out in the Netherlands. My wife and I did a Rhine River cruise in 2016, it was awesome. Started in Amsterdam and ended in Basel, Switzerland  Enjoy your vacation. Don't miss the Rijks Museum Amsterdam!

On the subject of railroads: Once you leave Amsterdam on the Rhine and head into Germany and France, there are railways on both sides of the Rhine, pretty much all the way through Germany.

FOR TODAY:  Yesterday after making the decision to disregard the "no trespassing sign" ( Thanks Mikeg for the encouragement! ) ...  I came upon these track workers working their tails off.  A Pennsy A5 waits to enter the siding at Danlilu.  I got a good look around and no one chased me off the property.  Seems like that steep climb up the mountain was well worth it after all!  IMG_6321

Lee - WOW!!  Fabulous scene and photographic skills!   I love the engineer leaning out of the cab!

Ron, Joe and Patrick, thank you very much for you kind words!

The track is by On30 Micro Engineering and that engineer was by Woodland Scenics. Those cabs are quite small, so stuffing engineer and fireman figures into them was not an easy thing.

No loco runs on the layout other than test runs when they're new, without a crew represented.

Monday morning blues, catching the train back to the city.

Keep those trains running.

JeffIMG_2127

Jeff, nice looking railroad station! Department 56 makes some nice stuff! Springlake Station was part of the Seasons Bay collection and they don't make them anymore, so it's a collectable. I have some Lemax buildings on my layout, but Lemax tends to be more whimsical, while Department 56 a little more realistic. Thanks for the sharing the picture!

Lee, Your modeling skill's along with your outstanding photo skill's really bring your layout to life! Amazing Photo!

Patrick, I am so glad you to that first step and boldly went beyond the no trespassing sign! From the photo it sure looks like it was well worth it!

Jeffery, what a wonderful little train station!

I hope everyone has a great day!
