When you say, "small layout", how small are you thinking ? There are numerous track plans for a 4' x 8' platform where O42 fits nicely.
A track plan the would fit nicely on a 4' X 8'
This was done in a small room 12'6" X 11' 8"' A bedroom with a closet. O-54 outer loop O-45 inner loop. Atlas track. To do O54 track requires a table width of 60".
O54 allows for a lot of locomotives/ engines. IMO. Mike CT. Best wishes with your project.
Looking at the track as it is in the diagram you provided, a 5'-6" x 10'-0" platform would just make it. For me, some of the track would be too close to the edges, so I would say a 6' x 11' platform would make me feel better.
This is current my layout that I built using O36 a couple years ago and Is 8' x 13' called look ma no switches I would like to be able to run my 6-28339 O Santa Fe Warbonnet Legacy AC6000 #9876 but It says in the manual It requires Lionel or Lionel-compatible O-42 or larger track curves I would like to redo the tracks with O42 Realtrax or Lionel O48 fastrack can this be done witch tracks would work on this size layout the curve where the black dot it shown in the bottom picture is where the train dies like there is a dead spot it any way to fix that problem could I redo this layout using MTH Realtrax O42 curve

I really like the farm scene you worked in on the corner of your layout
Very nice

Thank you, I have farm heritage in my blood. A lot was done with a simple Ertl farm set, with some paint detail. Outside rail loop is O54. Inside loop is O45. Atlas track.

Where the black dot Is.That is where the train dies like the Is no track signal power any way to bus wiring on this layout so there won't be any dead spot on this layout this Is an 8' x 13' if I went with mth realtrax what radius track wold I use on this size layout I think mth realtrax are better quality and don't rust like fastrack does that Is what i been told. Mth RealTrax are Solid, Rust-Proof Nickel Silver Track Rails. In the second picture Is a picture of a rusted Lionel Fastrack I found on google
