Wooden lamp posts were installed on all the NYC an LI Parkways, as well as a few roads upstate. In fact, the first lighting fixtures installed on the Belt and Cross Island Parkways (in 1940) were sodium vapor lamps housed in "futuristic" GE luminaires, the same type originally installed on the Golden Gate Bridge.
New wooden posts have returned to some sections of the Meadowbrook Parkway.
I seem to recall these in Connecticut too, but I was 13 the last time I was there, except for a brief trip to Yale about 10 years ago.
