Hay guys..

A few weeks ago I got my proto sound 2.0 upgrade from MTH for my Mallet "yea"  I was told by a guy at my local hobby shop that I could use the DCS commander to add the sound files ....Well I got one off the bay before reading more about it and  I still don't have sound ...so my question is this.....can I just buy the TIU and not the remote to save money and still be able to add the sound to the proto 2.0?

I've called around to the local hobby shops that sell MTH stuff and work on trains but cant find anyone to add the sound files...Anyway

will this work for me?

Thanks for the help with this

You might get a more solid response on the DCS section of the forum, but I'm pretty sure the TIU does not require the remote in order to load sound files.

It does require the update software available from the MTH site and also a cable to hook up the TIU to your computer.  Older TIUs require a serial cable and your computer to have a serial port or USB to serial converter.  The newer TIU has a USB port built onto it.

Thanks for the info guy's ...I didn't even think about posting this in the other listing...next time..lol......Anyway I found a shop called Tim's Trains and Hobbies and they can do it but the guy on the phone said he thinks there a 2 month wait for things to get fixed ....

That's a long time..He also said to just take it there and talk to the guy who does the work .....He might be able to do help me out a little faster ....so come Monday I'll give it a try..
