Very interesting !!!  But why the green band - someone's customizing? That's not characteristic of NSWGR paint schemes.

Dave, can you show us what the mechanism looked like? Or was the shell made to retrofit onto another chassis?

Spot on Ace, I have no idea where the green came from. It's certainly not a colour you'd normally see on diesels with the Tuscan and gold of that era, but that's not to say it is wrong either, as it might have some connection to the green on some express steam locos of the time. I will make inquiries.

Hi Alex, yes I'm good thanks, very busy designing some new products for Darstaed.

This is most likely what Alco forwarded when plans were requested.  My copy came with some lots I picked up at a Stout auction from Ralph Calvert's Fort Wayne, IN hobby shop.  In the lots were some factory paperwork from AMT/Auburn Model Trains, which included plans for an O scale PA.  It would have been interesting for AMT to have produced a plastic, scale PA instead of the EMD F unit that they put into production.

It's amazing that GE would have gone to the trouble of producing plans for model builders. Can't imagine that happening these days.

It happened when MTH came out with their retooled Dash 9s back in the early 2000s.

Incidentally, the big motor used was out of a WW11 aircraft. It's made by Westinghouse if I recall correctly. At my club there are dozens of scratch built locos all using these motors. One of our senior members, Col Shephard, who has built many beautiful locos, bought dozens of these motors from a war surplus shop back in the 50's and he's still using them in his models.

Charlie the loco was never built. The model was, in small numbers, they are rare.
