So, A good friend of Mrs. Lionelski and mine, whose husband passed 8 years ago, is clearing out her house to downsize and came across his old trains and wanted to know if I wanted them.

They consisted of a 1957 set headed by a 2037 steamer, great condition with original boxes and set box. 2 transformers, switches and lots of tracks.

While I would love to have them, I asked her if her Grandson would want them to play with. She replied, "No, as he would destroy them".  She then told me that "her daughter has fond memories of running them around their Christmas tree with her father when she was young".

So, I took them home, cleaned and lubed them, replaced the line cord and a few missing parts from the KW transformer, cleaned the track, rewired the switch controllers, removed some mildew from the boxes. I photocopied a set of instructions too.

The trains were then put back in their places in the set box.

Today I surprised her daughter with the set - tears fell!

Like I said, A really great day!

Great Job... It's nice to make someone HAPPY. I did a similar thing, someone gave me an old Lionel set. I cleaned it up and added some better cars, track and a Transformer with instructions. I donated it to our Church Christmas Fair. My pastor said it sure made a poor little boy HAPPY when his mother picked it out for him.

I've got one of my pastors at church that said he's got his dad's Lionel set from 1946 in the attic. Said it had smoke pellet system. I keep reminding him to get that out and bring it over. I can't wait to find out what he's got and bring her back to life. I know his kiddos and he will appreciate it! I love helping people thru the hobby like this.

God bless you John! You're a true gentleman.
