My 2 year old like to drive his train with me. I normally run my GG1 with a couple cars on the same loop with him, but being a long weekend, I got my VL BB down and was pulling a long train. He loves watching it, but Sunday he wanted to drive too. So Percy went to work doing the important job of pulling the main freight train. I was relegated to helper service. Not as glamorous, but a very useful engine does what is asked of him.

It's great when you and your son run trains together. Enjoy every minute of it. If like my son once he found out about video games, well you know the story.

I did the same this weekend with Thomas but he had an issue with switches I have manual fastrack switches and in the reversing loop he didn't have enough weight to flip the switch while going any kind of speed with out derailing . slow down at the switch he was fine but the granddaughter doesn't know what slow down means yet

My Percy flips the manual switches just fine, I haven't tried with Thomas yet as he's put away until Christmas (Got to slowly feed the addiction to keep it fresh and new.). But then the switch stands are removed as they were broken, so it probably takes less effort to flip the points now with less parts to more.
One of the best ways to instill interest in trains for your son. Good job.

Don't think for a minute that your son will not remember your allowing him to be in charge. Granted he will not have total recall but he will remember. Any time spent with just Daddy does leave a lasting imprint.
