I went to the big show this April with a different mission.

Wow! That was amazing! What a heartwarming story! That was very generous of you to do! Great job! The look of excitement on that kids face was awesome. You could tell he really appreciated the gift.
Awesome!

Very nice! What a fantastic thing to do. Christian was obviously very excited to get this big steam engine.
You are absolutely right when you say that it’s going to take new ideas like this and young people like you to grow this hobby.
I salute you, Chris. WELL DONE!
P.S. I have always pronounced it “TRY-plex.”
Well done.
I am deeply moved by your generosity and good will.
OK, that's one of the classiest things I've seen at the show, nice move Chris!
Nice going, Chris!! Let this be a lesson to all of us to never forget what it feels like to be a kid, no matter how old we are. I have given away a few freight cars here and there, but nothing of the magnitude of what Chris has just done for Christian. Well-done!! He will remember that moment forever.
Manufacturers take note: when it came time to run the Triplex, Chris and Sid handed Christian a remote control, not a cell phone or tablet.
CONGAS to you CHRIS….way to make the day for that young man…he will never forget YORK or you!!!!

Nice catch John!
Wow! That was pretty awesome! Nice job, Chris!
Absolutely wonderful! Thank you for representing the hobby so well! Love the videos and enthusiasm!
Chris - I have no words for this. Superlatives just don’t do it justice!
That young man will be telling this "train story" for the rest of life.
Nice Chris! Just too add, even small gestures are a good way to advance the hobby. I'm sure we all have a couple pieces of rolling stock we can spare next time at a show or meet. I have given away a few items when selling at shows especially when you have someone that is definitely a future train nut.
I'm not sure the remote is relevant to this story and again as far as I know Lionel still has them available (Cab1L) or possibly in the pipe line in the case of MTH.
Nice story, Chris, that was awesome and inspiring at the same time!
What a magnanimous gesture Chris. May God always keep his blessed hand upon you.
You just went off the charts in my book. Keep up the great videos, love and the Christian spirit that you exhibit.
You just made the world a better place in the eyes of this young man and his family.
Bravo!!
Not sure why, but I am not seeing anything in Chris' initial post (text, video, link, etc.). All I see is his opening line: I went to the big show this April with a different mission.
Chris, Awesome, Simply Awesome!

I have to agree completely with what John stated! Great gesture on your part!

Allan, I see a normal post with the video.

AWESOME GESTURE ON YOUR PART. FANTASTIC WAY TO GROW THIS HOBBY. BTW, missed seeing you at the meet and greet.
But...but... I always wanted a Tri-plex!

Absolutely wonderful, Chris! In the spirit of Chris' generosity, Marty brings up a great point how sellers might be able to "let go" of a piece of rolling stock to an interested young person. It would be a memorable and beneficial act that really costs us next-to-nothing.
Great job Chris!!!!
What a wonderful thing you did for that boy. You advanced the hobby today. Well done.
Wow, magnificent--both the gesture and the locomotive! "Being the difference" - you walk the talk!
The boy's face says it all! Great stuff, Chris.
Mission Accomplished! The posts above speak to the After Action Report. Well Done Chris.
I watched the video on his YouTube channel today. All I can say is Wow that is a great and very generous way to promote the hobby. Like someone else said maybe if dealers would let go of a piece that a young person had interest in it would go far in promoting this hobby and their business. I understand the profit thing but sometimes it might be worth it. I’ve been a dealer selling at shows and given away pieces of rolling stock. Get job Chris keep up the great work.
Chris,
You just made my day. What an awesome gesture.
Chris,
Why didn't you find me? I would have promised to let my grandchildren look at it.
Seriously, great idea and well done!
Chris gives a magnificent engine to a kid named Christian. Love the gesture and love the story! When I was a kid, another kid in the neighborhood won a American Flyer layout. He became a celebrity in the neighborhood, and I still want an American Flyer train still today. I think the manufacturers might learn something from the big Chris on how a giveaway may help spur interest in the hobby.
Thank you for sharing the video!
@Chris1985 Heck, what can be said about this that hasn't already? Fantastic, great, amazing? Truly the gift of a train that keeps on giving. That Triplex is going to be the stuff of legends for that young train boy. The great thing is he can have the video to back up the story. Awesome job Chris.
Wonderful, Chris! Great!!!!!
Peter
This is exactly what this hobby is about. Generosity, kindness, helpfulness, and caring.
@Chris1985, you're a true ambassador of the hobby!

We're both on the same page, but I don't think the responsibility falls (only) on the sellers. Cultivating the kids would be more effective with the participation of Bruce, Marty E, Chris (RBP), Stu, etc.
Bruce, next time you go to a show, take a box car and a tank car from YOUR collection with you. As you're walking around the show, find a kid and ask him if he likes tank cars better or box cars better. Depending on how he (or she) answers, hand them the corresponding car from YOUR collection that you brought with you. Or, take a MTH box car and a Lionel box car, and ask the kid which manufacturer they prefer and respond accordingly. It's not important *what* we do, just that we do *something*.
I've done what I'm proposing. The light in the kids eye's when you hand them a piece of rolling stock is heartwarming. Honestly folks, can't we all spare 1 piece of rolling stock from our collections to cement the kids as future participants in this hobby.
Stu
Not much to add that hasn't been said already. Amazing gesture on your part Chris.
I sure hope dad has room for 072 curves........
