Yesterday The 3rd set of Acela units moved through the Southern tier of NY on way to Amtrak for final set up to be placed in service! This was notable in it was the first direct to delivery to Amtrak. Made impressive sight pulled by 50th anniversary diesel at good speed. Of course my cell video failed to function!!

In all likelihood it's just a Genesis with a coach and food-service car for the crew. The pick-up train may have needed a certain number of cars on the trip up for signalling/crossing activation.

The previous two Acelas were released without interiors for testing purposes. This one is supposedly the first one released fully-equipped with interiors and all equipment for passenger service.

Are they actually towing the Acela behind another train?

John, Yes no catenary up here in the woods. This is #3 set and is fully finished interior just will need some final "shake down " run and of course will need amenities added. It was impressive coming through town at I estimate 50-60mph.  This is same set up Amtrak used  to come to Elmira NY to pickup the view liner cars built by CAFE. That order has been completed. The first 2 sets went for testing to Colorado but they were shells no interior. They have been returned to Hornell to be finished and any repairs needed after testing and will join the rest of sets.
