My brother, on the SB Acela, yesterday. No idea the track work could handle this kinda high speed train.

125 is common. The regional trains do that. Theres a short stretch in New Jersey between about Princeton Junction and New Brunswick where the Acela can let it rip. They've tested it to 170 but I think the set limit is 150.
Years ago when my daughter was in grade school her last summer school trip was on the ACE Train from Tracy CA to Santa Clara (Great America) I took out my Blackberry and saw that we were doing 95, but it sure didn't feel like that, the ride was smooth. I did a doubletake and pointed it out to one of the fathers who was just as amazed as I was. At first I thought it was a mistake but as we slowed down the speed on my phone correspondingly slowed down so it was accurate at best.
Mark,
We're not far behind here in the Midwest. On the Wolverine, from Detroit to Chicago:
DigiHUD for Android -- 111 MPH (107 avg), just west of Kalamazoo, MI; 7/19/2017 9:48a
I've only had a short ride on Acela, unfortunately, Washington Union Station to BWI airport station. We didn't really get going because it was so short. Nice equipment though.

A section in CT is probably the fastest. Nice ocean views too! Baltimore tunnel and just south of PHL before the Septa regional airport line turn are the slowest. I looking forward to the new Acela. Thanks for sharing these images.
