Adding El Train Elevated Layout

I have been considering adding an elevated layout to my 11x14ft baseline layout for some time. Finally got to it and spent the month of July designing, fabricating, and assembling a modest elevated rail layout to sit atop my baseline layout.

I opted to document my approach and process in an MS Word file to tell the story of the design, fabrication, and assembly with words and photos. I saved that file as a pdf which is attached.

Next step in my build process is wiring the various switches and track connections under my train table and on to my controls. I will follow up with an update as the electrical wiring progresses.

Wiring is finished and elevated trains are running on the new elevated layout. I made two videos to show the operations and used my MTH Lo-V set to illustrate the operations.

First video shows the automated reversing function of the two O-54 switches in the middle of the figure eight layout using non-derailing wiring for each switch. These two switches are not wired in parallel; they operated independently of each other.

Second video shows the outer loop operation where I programmed the Lo-V powered engine via the MTH hand held to make three stops around the complete loop. Programmed loop starts at the junction of the two O-54 switches in "thru" position in middle of the figure eight then continues over the truss bridge in back of layout. Video shows the automated operation around the outer loop.
