I have the MTH 4-6-4 Hiawatha 30-1127-1 and wonder if anyone has added rollers to the tender. I notice that every once in a while, when traveling over a switch the engine shuts down and I have to give it a nudge to get it to wake up again.

It appears to me that this may be a real challenge.

Barry,

Thanks for the info. I do have some dual rollers from another engine, an MTH SW Swicher.

However, because of the design of the under carriage of the 4-6-4, the rollers will not work. There is a "hump" in the bracket that holds the axles to the frame, both on the front driver and the rear driver. Because of this "hump", the duel rollers will not fit, even though they are shorties. If I cut the bracket, then the spring would not hold the rollers down on the center rail.

Thanks for the suggestion, and if you can think of any other way of fixing this issue, I would appreciate it.

If this is a non-derailing switch, there's a good chance your loco is losing ground, rather than hot, power.  If there are wipers on loco rear truck or tender trucks, the wiper might not be making a good connection to the tender frame.  I solved thgis problem by running a wire from the wiper base to the frame.
