Sounds like a good idea to fill after running and I am going to try this, but I will probably end up like Rod here, and end up over filling the darn things. What we need is a 'smoke fluid gauge' readable from the command control remotes. Like fuel gauge on vehicle. Well, that's what I need anyway. Maybe we could talk gunrunnerjohn into adding this to his train electronic invention project list.

This is good advice and I've done it myself for the past couple of years.

 

My question is this - Will the fluid eventually evaporate? I have some locos that haven't been run now for a few months and I'll be firing them up for the first time in the coming weeks. Just wondering how much of the last 20 drop dose still remains in there right now.

If you do it this way, I suggest you make sure to run the smoke unit dry before packing the engine up for storage or shipping!
