I've just received my first MTH 2-rail locomotive, an EMD F40PH in Amtrak Phase IV as #409. I've been unable to find a manual for it on the MTH Trains website, so I'm hoping someone here can answer my silly questions about it!
What documentation I have found warns about running it without smoke oil unless you turn the smoke control down to minimum and talks of a DCS/DCC switch that needs to be set for proper DCC operation.
I've seen the DCS/DCC switch described as being between the front trucks (which doesn't make much sense and I'm in trouble if I can see it)... Another place described it as on the side of the fuel tank - again I can find nothing there... Older F40PH manuals which I could find seemed to indicate that the back three fans should lift up from the back but without being more violent than I wish to be on a brand new model, I can't get it to lift.
So can someone clarify for me please:
1. Where are the controls?
2. How should I get at them?
3. What are the defaults? Will it work "out of the box" if I put on a DCC track and don't add smoke oil?
