Aerotrain troubles...Need some Help!

I love mine. First check the traction tires.

What should I be looking for with the tires?

I Have a PS2 so I assume they would be the same. Maybe your traction tires came off. There should be two on the rear truck and two on the front track.

I mean you would really have to have bashed it to damage the frame or put a motor out of alignment.

It is the most simple thing to check in any event.

The traction tire is the little rubber tire that goes around the steel wheel, you would see a groove it is is missing.

On the sounds I was never smart enough to get them to work right with my Z-1000. They work great with my TIU and remote. Nice local train station announcements including Johnstown, Pa.

I didn't take a lot of time with it a few weeks ago to explore the sounds.

Everything seems to be working sound-wise except just didn't hear any announcements.  Perhaps I have to check the program function?

Yikes.  I don't think I even checked that.  I just took it out of box and after a quick lube, put it on the track.  Do they normally come from factory without the traction tires on or off?  I will definitely look when I get home tonight.

unless the worm gear jammed when it hit the impact.  jarring may jam th wheels to a stop, so maybe it bend something, shaft, etc. 

The only other thought I have is the front truck motors working? Maybe you might have knocked a wire out of the wire nut. If they are not working you might want to take the shell of and check the wire.

I sure would hate to think you did some damage to the gears etc.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I got home too late to check the engine, so I will give it a good examination tonight after my son's baseball practice.

I don't recall at the moment, but the other small Railking streamliner sets (M10000, Burl. Zephyr) have a motor in the rear observation car. Might check if this set does and see if all the connectors are plugged in the sockets in the cars and the rear motor is getting power.

Two questions:

What is the MTH catalog number for the set you have?  There may be a connection to the era.

And does your set have "operating" couplers?  Mine is boxed up right now but as I recall the couplers are NOT operating so they cannot be coupled and uncoupled.

I have the PRR PS/3 Aerotrain set.  Look at the rear wheel truck, they bend very easily and then the locomotive "hops" down the track.  I had the same issue, I had to bend things back into place.  The running gear on these is a bit fragile, but once you get it right, they seem to run fine.

Chuck, there is no motors anywhere else in the set, there are also no tethers.  Just two motors in the locomotive.
