Happy New Year! I have the PRR 2-8-8-2 running under the tree and she ran great until now. When I send a command to the engine, the cab light and marker lights blink and nothing else moves. The loco acts erratically when I can get her to go (whistles on its own, chuffs occasionally, etc.). I have reset the engine per the manual and cleaned the tender wheels and the track but no go. Will someone explain what's up with this? Thank you.

If you are using a Legacy and reset means you reprogrammed it and nothing changed call the Lionel service center to get permission o send it back for warranty work. You have to get a return authorization from them before you can send it back. 586-949-4100 They are not open on the weekend.
Thank you, Mr. Bill!
Check the alignment of the IR sensors on the drawbar between engine and tender.
Thanks for your input, jonnyspeed. I looked at the IR and I get no variance from the way she's acting. After that, I reset/reprogrammed the loco and input the loco number and touched "start" and held it for the dialogue. I touched the multi-controller to activate her and all I hear is an air release with no lights on. When I turn the velocity throttle just one notch, the marker lights and the cab light blinks once. All I hear is a generator sound and the touch screen is unresponsive. She is on straight track and the IR alignment appears to be OK but I'm no skilled repairman. Am I on the dead track now, ready for the roundhouse? Your comments, please? I am running with Cab-2, by the bye. Thank you all.
Bill is correct, call Lionel and get an RA number. I had similar situation on a Challenger and on an SD70. Sent to Lionel and they took care of problem. Both had a broken wire,

Thanks to all you gentlemen who replied. Unfortunately, I did not get a receipt for the loco when I bought her last year in Springfield, MA. Will Lionel give me a problem with that?
Tim,
Lionel has been very good with the Legacy products, the two Challengers that I sent back were beyond warranty and they repaired with out a question.

Unfortunaly you are dead in the water. You will have to pay for the cost of the repair. You need a receipt from a dealer that has a relationship with Lionel. They have a minimum charge of around $80 for any repair. They do pay for the cost to ship it back to you but you must pay to ship to them. You need to call the number I posted earlier and get information directly from Lionel on costs. It is too bad under the circumstances but I advise people never to buy a new Lionel engine accept from a Lionel dealer.
Did you buy it from a dealer? If so google them and get their number and ask them for a reciept copy.
Hello, all. I have contacted the dealer and they will send me a receipt per the information I have e-mailed to them. They responded quickly to my e-mail request and I will let all of you know the outcome. Thank you, guys!
Hello, all. As of today, I have not received any reply for a receipt from last January 7th. I saw them at the Springfield, MA show on January 26th and they said they will see their distributor on January 29th and contact me after. I'm still waiting! I e-mailed them last Sunday and as of now, no reply. I feel like I've been played. I'm a patient man; I'll give them a little more time but I am ready to name names if necessary.....
Rayin"S" Maybe since Mike Reagan is no longer head of the service dept, they are again a model for other companies to copy. Before the Mike R as head of service dept era, Lionel's customer service is a large part of what made me a HUGE Lionel fan, USED to be if I got cut, I Bled Blue and Orange.
Then Mike R. took over the svc dept, and just getting any replies out of him took weeks, before He finally threw me under the bus. I lost a lot of faith in Lionel during that period, and have since bought a lot less of Lionel's products than I otherwise would have.
I have read that there has been a change in management in Lionl's service dept, maybe, they are bringing back there old standards. I Hope so.

Well, I still have not received a reply from "S" gauge dealer Gary Clark/ Laura Zase about obtaining a receipt for my Y6 purchase from them last year. They are all right when you purchase used/like new AF but they are unresponsive when buying new Flyonel. They are unwilling to support the new Lionel AF they sell. I have had no phone call, e-mail or snail mail from them about this simple problem. The "S" community has been forewarned by me; get a receipt with your purchase....
Tim,
Please call Lionel and talk with them, explain the problem with the receipt and the problem with your engine. As I stated earlier with my engine I could no longer find the receipt and I did offer to pay for the repair. Lionel did repair my engine and they did not charge me, Lionel has been exceptional in the way that they have treated people with problems with their Legacy products. Your engine is doing you absolutely no good as a display model.

Hello all! I have just today received a receipt from the distributor who supplies the Clark/Zase dealer with new AF. I am glad to see a response, finally, even if there is no apology or note with the letter. Now, I can have the loco repaired without a charge. Again, get a receipt at purchase!
Hello. I just received an e-mail from Clark/Zase saying that they're sorry for the delay and I should have received a receipt from their distributor. Better late than never but, man, it's been almost two months! Now, it's round two to see how Lionel handles the return of my Y3...
Well, hang in there and keep us posted...
