Always thought this was a neat looking engine. Always wanted to see it after learning about the Yreka operation in a VHS "Great American Train Rides" (remember those!) video series. Those logging Mikados always had a "business" look to them. The Yreka operation looked beautiful. Stunning views of Mt. Shasta. Will be strange to see that engine not in California.

I'm disappointed in the Age of steam getting this engine.  The Valley railroad would of restored her and she would actually have pulled Trains with paying patrons

I think Mr. Jacobson and his crew are more than capable of getting that engine up and running (especially if the boiler work has already been finished), more quickly than a museum (which tend to be cash poor) unless they have a sugar daddy/mama anteing up plenty of funds to make the purchase, move the goods, and pay for the repairs needed.

Gary is right. Valley railroad would have restored it and run it along the connecticut river . They are not a museum. Now it will sit in a roundhouse . Age of steam has plenty of stuff to restore now. Why don't they do it?  John

You paying the bill and/or supplying manpower with the ability to do the work?

SJS,I don't have to supply anything. I would just like to see the engine operate. Valley R.R. would have done that. John

Nothing to say Jerry Jacobsen and AOS won't run it. He's got the place to run it, just matters on whether or not he wants to. He's got two (maybe more) operating engines - a 4-6-2 and an 0-4-0T. Another that operated somewhat recently, according to their updates, is in the process of being brought back to life (2-8-0). They are restoring an 0-6-0 they recently bought to operating condition and more. Considering this engine is more or less operable (compared to others in his collection), or at least was in recent years, I wouldn't be surprised to see it run again.

I could also argue that the Valley Railroad may not have bought it to get it running immediately. I'm not familiar with their organization and have never been there (maybe next year!). They may have just been interested in having it, just to "have" for possible future use. Remember, they also have a 2-8-0 that is "serviceable", needing inspection and other maintenance.

Speculation is #97 the 2-8-0 mention above is in need of major repairs, and this mikado could could brought up to service a lot faster and for less money since the boiler has zero time since rebuild.  But we'll never know the AOS won fair and square and own it now.

Hi SJS,  Jerry Jacobson could run it, but it won't run in passenger service like it would on the Valley R.R. Age of steam has 19 steam locomotives on there roster and only two that run. They didn't need this one.  They have plenty to restore. John

Not sure who "SJS" is but personally, I look forward to seeing it in Ohio. I hope one day I can see it and the entire collection there.
