A visit to the Quaker Steak & Lube will never be the same...

Has anyone been there besides part of some large group tour? From their website it looks to be just a private collection of things that for tax purposes it is a museum but not open to the public. When was the last time anything there ran?

1293 operates from time to time and so does their 0-4-0. The owner of the whole operation is recently deceased. They have an endowment that will allow them to continue to operate. Although I’m not sure what the long term plans are for the facility.

1293 may be down now as well unless they got an extension. There wasn't much boiler time left, and no real need for a "big" engine.

Last update that was sent out showed heavy work on-going to the massive 2-8-0 LS&I 33 (which also apparently only ran a handful of days after it's original restoration and may be out of 1472 time) as well as an 0-6-0.
Based on the work going on with the 33, it appears they have every intention of running it again. I wouldn't think they'd put in the time and money to do such extensive firebox work to leave it parked.
They do tours on summer Saturdays for large groups. If you see a group listed on their website on a day you can go, it's always worth checking to see if you can buy in.
They also explained that if they were to be open as a museum, they'd have to put emergency exits in. During summer, they just leave the bay doors open. In cold weather, that wouldn't do.
