I believe that the folks at the Alaska Railroad are very resourceful.

Anyone know the history of the Alaska RR A units pictured below?

The 4 portal window set are perhaps from an EMD FT?

The trucks look like an Alco?

Is that a Baldwin face only a mother would love!

Any help appreciated.

Your link's not working, but but I can guess what your looking at.

The locomotives are ex US Army RS-1's. 1050 and 1051 were shrouded by the International Car Company in Ohio, other locomotives were shrouded by the Puget Sound Bridge & Dredge Company in Seattle, while others were done in house by the Alaska Railroad.

This photo is from Alaskarails.org. The caption reads:

"Alaska 1078 RF1: This unit started life as a RSD1 (ex-ARR RSD1 1019; nee US Army 8053) in 1943. The ARR acquired it in 1949, retired it in 1972 and scrapped it in 1973. This photo was taken in July of 1971. The photo shows #1078 sitting in the storage track. It was just after these photo's were taken that these units were taken to the scrap yards. (June 1972)"

No. No o gauge mfg ever offered this unique unit. It appears to be a funky fa unit with a custom nose.
