Wife and I visited a few years ago as part of a tour. When my wife signed up for theinland passage cruise and the tour, the first thing they sent us were two rain ponchos, and I feared the worst. Well, we had no rain for all eight days, sunny with temps in the 65-75 degr range. I have ridden the Silverton and, while narrow gauge is not my interest, the ride on the White Pass surpasses them all for scenery. I remember when we traveled across the first fill with a 1200 ft drop, ALL of the passengers on our side of the coach ran across the aisle (as if that would help!) That ride closely resembles an amusement park ride!!! We rode behind diesels, two GE's and one Alco. Unequaled scenery, plenty of wildlife, friendly people, Denali, etc, I heartily recommend it.

Uh ... old passenger boats have sometimes overturned when that happens ...
As any farmer will tell you, weather is a crap shoot...I went in August, and HEARD!!? that is the rainy month. But, what month did the posters above go?
I have been there at the end of May on both trips. On one trip, it was actually sunny (and warm in a few spots) the entire way. On last year's trip, it was sunny and just a little cool in Skagway but a little foggy-overcast at a few elevations (mostly in the high tundra) yet clear at Frasier. It didn't rain either time.
Now, all that said, the weather in Alaska is always a crapshoot. You simply can't count on it, though in the summer months you have a far better chance of an experience like the ones I've had.
