I checked off my 50th state this last couple of weeks...and had a couple of rides on the Alaskan RR, but the most interesting was that on the White Pass and Yukon narrow gauge into British Columbia and back past one rickety,
high trestle they said was swaying when last used. I only rode the eastern half of the Cumbres and Toltec, so missed
the high trestles there, but these gorges sure looked deeper than those and the Silverton Colorado ones. It was, of
course, steam, while the Alaskan is diesel. There is, of course, much else to see in Alaska, with its size, more than
in a life time, but I touched the usual sights. Ten grizzly bears, two of them just running up the road ahead of you,
and you hold back...they have the right of way!...But the WP&Y is steam, but only on one day a week, so I was there
at the right time.
