Can I convert a conventional Alco diesel to be ran by remote and keeping full power to tracks. Adventually I would like to be able to control it by the new legacy remote.

Yes, you need to install an ERR AC or DC commander at minimum to control from a legacy remote. The type will depend on the type of motor. Cans are DC and older Lionel motors are AC

- Specific Alco model of what prototype locomotive?
