Back in 1992 I was saving up for an American Models FA-2/FB-2 locomotive set. Then Ron Bashista announced the PA/PB, and the budget went that way. Just recently I finally acquired a used FA-2/FB-2, replaced a messed up traction tire, fixed the headlight, and added AM, BTS. and home-made details. Only then did I realize I had all four of American Models' ALCO diesel locomotives, and that gave me an idea for a follow-up video: the story of the American Locomotive Company, represented by American Models trains.

ALCO stumbled in the diesel-electric market even while producing beautiful locomotives. This is an account of ALCO diesel history and its recovery that came too late, illustrated by S scale locomotives from American Models. AM has produced four of the most famous ALCO diesels, and each appears in this video.
