New Forum--interesting right? Not sure how to find previous topics so gona start here. Looking for the best sound engine that sounds like an Alco. Any suggestions?

t. Mth's new rs1 is very good .
I was near the Alco site last week, all torn down to build a casino.
I like the MTH Alco sounds, I see your in the Fort wayne Area, I would try going over to Mr Muffins Trains and listen to the different models there. MTH has several Alco sounds all very good IMO.

RS-3s PAs & FAs, they all sound alike.... Like they're going to blow up at any minute. Seriously I doubt if I could tell the differece in sounds between the engines.

Pretty much all of my Alco's (Lionel and MTH) have that "clattering catastrophe" sound on start up and idle but sound quite nice at higher RPMs which can be adjusted for any speed with the DCS remote. My GP fleet is the opposite. A soothing purr at low RPM and kind of irritating at high RPM. I love em both though. For pure sound quality I would recommend a Lionel Legacy engine. MTH PS3 is really really good but the Legacy sounds are amazing IMO.
Not too many good ones as far as I know. The C420s Lionel did just before Legacy were pretty good IMO, but only 3 RPM levels.
True. but if you count idle as a run level, all the per-legacy Lionel Railsounds diesels had four run levels.
