I did do a search, because I know this has been addressed, but couldn’t find how to do this. Erroneously I bought two RCS 072 switches (third party) that I thought were tinplate compatible. I’m having a devil of a time getting the larger tubular pins to connect and I built up the area under the switch. I have enlarged the switch but I’m not happy with the alignment. As always, your insights are appreciated.

When you get the mating pins, pay close attention to where the "bulge" is that mates to the tubular track side.  Make sure the bulge is pointing down or the to outside of the of the rail.  If the bulge faces the inside part of the rail when you insert it to the tubular track side, it will give you an uneven alignment and cause noticeable, yet unnecessary rocking.
