Being a railroader-turned-cattle rancher, it is easily my favorite.
These shipping pens are somewhere near San Saba, TX.

Great thread, Rob.
Here is my favorite.
Jack Delano's photo of the Super Chief refueling in Albuquerque.
Ginny and I based all of our Munoz Station activity on Jack's photograph.
The more you know about Santa Fe, the more you can appreciate that Super Chief shot back in 1943. Just imagine hopping into that photo and checking out the entire consist from knuckle to knuckle. And mebby, just possibly, finding an empty berth for sale on a Yampai car headed out of town ! Santa Fe..All the Way !
Saw this a few years ago.
Of train photos I have taken, this is one of my favorites. Union Pacific at Mormon Rocks in Cajon pass.
The photo below was taken during the Steam Festival at Owosso, Michigan three or four years ago. More of my railroad photos at www.scaramouchephoto.com Click "Railroads"

Ah yes, Train Festival in Michigan, 2009. A great time was had by all, inspire of the rail, heat & humidity, and the minor derailment of the engine truck on 4449. Too bad we can't do it again.
A couple I took on fan trips in the 1970's--
High Iron Berkshire
and a trip in winter on the CN from Montreal to Quebec City. Broke down, hit a car and etc. Got back about 7AM the next day.

The Wabash Decatur shops are in the background. I toured them when I was in the Cub Scout in the 50's, great memory. Our Cub pack took a train from St. Louis and returned the same way in a coach provided to us by the railroad. The coach was dropped off in Decatur and picked up again when we left.
I was in Decatur for a Thanksgiving in the early 80's and went back to take a look. Although this F7 was in sad shape, it has been restored in Wabash colors and is at a museum in Illinois.
The picture reminds me of happy some days.

I can't see the BNSF allowing us to operate from Portland to Chicago, what with the enormous increase in rail traffic on their north line, i.e. oil trains. Even Amtrak can't operate on time through that territory. Besides, who would fund such a trip on Amtrak again? Plus, what would be the purpose of such a cross-country trip to Michigan ?
One of my favorite pics is of the 4449 as the American Freedom Train. The grand locomotive...plus one passenger car is sitting on the tracks at Aquatic Park in San Francisco...with the Transamerica building and the SF skyline in the background. The pic was taken by Robert Morris. I believe he took the pic from a municipal pier...across the water. I have an 11 x 14 framed version hanging in my train room. Matt
One of my favorites that I took myself is from the East Broad Top in October, 2004.
I've always referred to this as my "Phil Hastings" shot taken from the farm road overpass at McMullen Summit. Considering what has happened to the EBT, I am very glad of every shot I took there.
As far as photos taken by others, I am a fan of the steam era photos of the Western Maryland Rwy., and the B&O taken by William Price and Robert Collins. Also diesel-era photos of WM ,B&O, and Chessie System by Tom Biery and Bill Hopkins.
My favorite photo is of the PRR K4 Torpedo taken late in its life with the streamlining partially removed. I like this photo because it is one of very few photos that show it how I want to model my Weaver Torpedo.
Here is a photo of the Weaver model with the side panels removed. Now I just need to get the nerve to cut the rest of the shroud to match the picture above.
Here are a few I have taken over the years. The toughest one was the NJ Transit Train during a Thunderstorm. I think I took around 90 images before I got "the shot".
Hope you enjoy.

....and speaking of that minor derail of the lead truck of 4449.....
as for favorite pictures...too many to post...but here's a recent one I rather like...
This is one of my favorites. Right place at the right time. They had just cleared the lot south of the San Bernardino Depot for redevelopment. You can't get this picture now because they've built up a new strip mall and shops that obscure the depot.
Here's another of people in So. Cal. saying goodbye to an old friend. Last moments within the confines of the Los Angeles County Fiargrounds.
This is an awesome photo taken by Dan Kirby during a Night Photo Shoot that I had organized the Friday night before (my home town) Lansdale's Founders Day, August 2014. The local Fire Co. did a great job in providing the extra lighting.
What a fantastic thread !!
