Can someone tell me how much overhang is on the front of a scale Lionel allegheny, on an O-72 curve from the center rail.  I assume the new Lionel one will be the same as the previous version. I'm thinking of getting one when they come out but I may have a clearance problem.

thanks

We had collisions with large articulated locomotives and 21 passenger cars or the Lionel auto carriers on O99 curves spaced at 4.75", so I'd have to say that 4.5" is not sufficient.  My Allegheny is packed away right now, but it had less than 1/4" less overhang than the VL-BB, and it would have had the same issue on those 4.5" spaced curves.

Agree with gunnerjohn in regards to the 'bigger' engines and tack spacing.

I open up a lionel portal to 6". I allow 3.25" from center rail entering the portal. I originally set this up for the big boy knowing everything would fit. You won't notice that the portal is not centered.

Is that a Big Boy in the pic?  0-72 track?  what is the distance from the engine to the portal?

Thanks

Doug,

Here you go.  This is my JLC Allegheny on Ross O72 track.  The ruler is set against the outside rail.
