1218I have just acquired a 1218 that is in fairly good condition, with the exception of the wiring. I am hoping someone can give me some guidance on how to rewire this Locomotive.

There was one wire going from the top of the field to one of the brushes.  Another loose wire was at the headlight.  And a third wire from the center roller connector with the other end loose.

Looking for any help or a wiring diagram.

I have added a photo of the chassis, I cleaned it up and polished it. The wire from the roller assembly, and the headlight housing have been replaced.

The insulation on the wire from the top of the field was completely dry rotted, so I removed it and replaced the insulation with a silicone insulation from the 22 gauge wire I use in train work.1218 Chassis

I don't have the wiring diagram however most Flyer universal AC/DC motors ran the field coil and armature in series so if one of the brushes mounts on the frame the other brush goes to the field winding and the other end of the field goes to center rail.  It looks like the right brush holder is mounted in the frame  so by reversing the field coil connections to the insulated brush holder you reverse the locomotive.  I don't think I have ever seen a universal AC/DC motor on a model train where the field and armature were wired parallel. I have seen this on a drill motor but not a model train.                                   j
