Earlier today I had an email from a fellow who is going to bring an AF 3195 to the repair clinic at an upcoming TCA meet. Photos below. It needs rods. Is there any reasoanble likelihood that they can be found. I was just reading in Greenburg that AF had some diecast rod that have mostly died from zinc pest or other such maladies. I see that these were made in 1930-31.
In regard to operation, he said "The head light works and the engine is active inside but no motion. This is an early one which only goes forward. I'd like to have it operational". IS this locomotive like most others that I've seen where it is likely that it needs shining of commutator and brushes. That brush holder looks sort of similiar to others that I've had in my shop.
By way of background, I'm organizng a repair clinic for the New England TCA meet on April 28th. We're inviting members to bring their repair problems and we'll see what we can do to help them. Among us are experts on Marx, AF and Lionel. This is an experiment - bound to be very interesting.
Here are the photos the owner sent.
