I have been working on this American Flyer prewar 429 0-6-0 switcher for a couple of weeks. Mostly the reverse unit was giving me fits, but I finally got it working consistently and also picked up the correct tender recently on fleabay. I had to replace the trucks and still need to remove the decals etc, but so far so good.

Do you know what was the prototype engine Am Flyer was trying to copy with this engine. Was it freelanced? I have been looking for the info on line and can't find it.
I looked a little and found nothing as well. Since Flyer was based in Chicago at that time (before the move to New Haven by Gilbert) maybe it was a C&NW? I really don't know though. It would be neat to figure it out though!
