American Flyer 717 Log car adaptation

I have had a 752 AF log loader for many years but could never get it to load correctly with Lionel 3461 dump cars. I saw a youtube video today using the 717 Log car and it worked perfectly. Would it be a matter of switching to Lionel sliding shoe trucks? Any ideas would be helpful
