The question has previously been asked of how the new cylindrical hoppers perform on American models track, I did not see an answer to this and seeing as I run Gilbert American Flyer track I purchased one out of curiosity. I purchased the Rio Grande car because I liked the color scheme. As I expected I was able to exchange the wheels on the axles with high rail wheels from S Helper and use the new A F trucks. The wheels press off the Flyer axles with little difficulty, I had to shorten  the plastic spacer about .025" and then reassemble the axles to the trucks, all in all not a bad job.

Mark, I will do as you requested, gives me an excuse to get another one of these hoppers. I do also have some of these wheel sets left, I had already put these on most of my AF cars, these wheels roll much better then the Flyer plastic wheels.

That sounds like a good fix Ray.

If you get another Cyl. Hopper and do another fix please post detailed instructions, techniques and photos. I have a large supply of SHS highrail wheelsets and would convert my cars if I had something to guide me.

Mark
