I have a few sets of older American Models FA/FB units with spring drive systems in them. Unfortunately the rubber piece that the springs slide over has worn out over time. Does anyone know where a replacement is available? Is there any way to modify these to have a better drive system?

Agreed. AM sells parts that aren't listed on their website.
AM went back to the "traditional" ball and socket mechanism long ago, so they should have the needed parts in stock.

I have replaced most of my American Models universals with units from Hobbytown of Boston, Nick has been very helpful in shipping quickly and the instructions are very good.

Thanks for all the good information. I will try hobbytown of Boston. I have contacted American Models for the past two days but I haven’t received a reply.
Boggle,
Any updates on acquiring the universals for your American Models locomotives?

I got a hold of American models today. They said they have a kit to update the drive system. I’ll let you know how it goes when I get them.
Cool... looking forward to what you come up with. 👍

Got the kits and put them together last week. It was really easy to assemble the kits and press on the u joints. Definitely recommend getting the upgrade kit from them directly.
