Usually I do not ask questions but rather experiment on my own to find the solution. At the risk of burning out a diesel sound card, my question is, will the American Models F-7 B unit with diesel sound work an a DCC system. Both run and work AC voltage. Thank You Bill

Offhand, I would say no. If it does by some chance, you wouldn't have any control over bell and horn anyway.
Plus, the AM sound system uses voltage amplitude to increase the revs on the diesel sound.

Hi Bill,
If the American Models F7 loco sound card does not specifically say that it supports DCC, then if will not run on DCC. DCC is a type of AC waveform, but a very specific type of waveform that sends digital packets on a square wave at a specified frequency through the rails that the DCC decoder constantly snoops and decodes checking for a packet that is directed at that specific decoder’s address. Then when the decoder finds a packet directed to its specific address, then it acts on it, e.g. moves forward or backwards, changes lighting, etc. If you want this loco to run on DCC, then you need to swap out the sound card with a DCC compatible sound card. However, doing so will negate being able to go back and run on straight AC.

Thank you to both Rusty and Scott for your replies. I assumed that the DCC power would not work and both of you confirmed that assumption. Thanks again guys, I appreciate your input. Bill
