Just a few more shots... Amazing town.

Train Station in Amsterdam.

Thousands of bikes parked outside the train station waiting for their owners return.

Heading out to Koln, Germany.  The train was fun.  Average speed was 85 mph.  The return trip though had our train delayed by more than 3 hours due to signal issues.  Good thing we caught another coming from Frankfurt.

Cologne or Koln Germany

Some local transportation.

The main bridge into the train station over the Rhine.  This destroyed in WW2.  Note all the locks on the bridge.  Then run the entire length of the bridge.

Another view from the shore.

One of the first sights out of the train station in the Cologne Cathedral.  So impressive.  The building to the left is between me and the plaza in front of the train station.

Just a little perspective after WW2...

I haven't been in the Netherlands or Germany for a very long time. First time I went was in 1988 and I travelled with my (USAF ground-lauched cruise missile launch officer) brother. He had coupons that made gas very inexpensive so we never rode any trains (other than the rack RR to the top of the Zugspitze when going skiing there). Didn't stop me from getting some good shots of them in various places, though and walking into several depots. I don't think I saw the Koln depot, though. That cathedral there is like the VAB building at Kennedy Space center, in that you can see it from miles away and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Man, how I want to get back to Europe again, though...

Koln is correct spelling.

I've always wondered how we got "Cologne" from Köln, or for that matter, "Germany" from "Deutschland"? I'm sure there's a good story behind stuff like that, but I've never understood how the locals call something one thing, and it's called something else by people who don't live there...
