I have 4 of the early AMT Vista Dome Cars. Unfortunately the Observation domes on all of them are distorted or broken. The cars are built with an unbelievable level of quality and I want to fix them. It really makes no sense at all, it would be easier to throw them away and buy some premium, made in China, cars to replace them. I'm an Engineer /Tool and Die Maker that has an healthy respect for quality workmanship and the people that perform it. So out of respect for the previous generation of Craftsman, I decided to repair the cars with new Lionel domes. I designed a mill fixture and machined the first two cars today. I took my time and machined the dome to slip fit into place. It will probably require some spot gluing at the corners to keep it centered. When everything is complete, repair and polishing, I'll have at least 2hrs labor in each car. It's a small price to pay for respect. Merry Christmas!!!!
