As we all know, AEM-7's dressed in Amtrak livery are now museum pieces. It seems that AEM-7's are now comparable to the famed GG-1's. Both served the same lines, pulled the same trains, and did their job quickly and efficiently.

But Amtrak wasn't the only passenger carrier to use AEM-7's, give or take. MARC, SEPTA, and NJ Transit, used AEM-7's, or at least a similar type of locomotive, designed to suit commuter service.

Are any of those locomotives still operational?

I think many of these regional owners have Amtrak to service them. I believe MARC and septa are being forced to stop using them as Amtrak has informed them that they will no longer support that platform. I don't know about NJ Transit.

What is sad is these locos gave great service to Amtrak yet they got such a crappy paint scheme in the twilight of their careers.

Yes some are, after attending to the NRHS Railcamp east this past summer I was able to talk with Amtrak to learn that they leased some of their Aem-7s to MARC. Also, some Septa Aem-7s are still operable but not as common to be seen on the rails today. Don´t be surprised of you see an Acs-64 pulling MARC cars, because its all leasing!
