I have a question for you guys with better memories than mine.  In the early days of Amtrak, did they own and operate any F-7's, painted in Amtrak colors and regularly used on some of their trains?  I do remember seeing, riding behind and riding in E-8's that came from member railroads, but, other than using a few in the original RR's colors for just a few years, I don't recall seeing Amtrak F-7's in regular service.  Some of the model RR companies have come up with Amtrack paint schemes but they seem to me to be adaptations of Amtrak's E-8's.

Is anyone more familiar with the early Amtrak rosters?

In the early 1970's it was common to see these units handling the Empire Builder and North Coast Hiawatha between Seattle and Chicago, extending the earlier practice of GN, NP and BN to use F units on these routes.  Amtrak 150 and 151 were ex-GN F7B units.  E units were not well suited to mountainous routes for various reasons (although UP did it but used a lot of them in their consists).
