Amtrak Genesis Headlights

I noticed on some Amtrak Genesis units, especially my favorite, #37 (which serves the Wolverine mostly), the primary headlights are in a space that looks like rounded, but on other ones, like #180 (no idea which one this serves), has a pentagon-like shape. Why is this?

The noses have been replaced with fiberglass removable bodywork that is easier to repair (by replacement) than the sheet metal noses. The rounded openings are the newer style of panel.

Originally the sheet metal nose had a pentagonal opening that housed the headlights under a clear panel. The panel is also gone now.
