That is very cool! It's not just fairly accurate, it's extremely accurate. It updates every 10 to 15 minutes over the whole country. Green is 15 minutes late or less, yellow is 15 - 60 minutes late and red is over an hour.

The Saturday WB Empire Builder #7 has been sitting at the station in St Cloud, MN because it was more than a half hour EARLY!

Empire builder is the northern most route pictured.  It accesses  Glacier National Park, Montana, both East and West Glacier.  My return trip from the great northwest this summer generally followed this route, though eventually I did the upper peninsula of Michigan to avoid the Milwaukee/Chicago traffic.

Glacier pictures.

Hike to Granite Park Chalet.

When riding an Amtrak train equipped with WiFi, you can also access a progress map for your particular train on the Wifi landing page:

amtrak onboard statusmap

The moving icon updates in real-time, gives you your current speed, distance and time to the next station, as well as your on-time status. Basically the same info transmitted to the track-a-train app (which is also available on Amtrak's website)
