Why were the Metroliner EMU's retired and converted to cab cars? 

By the way, I asked in a previous post if the Amtrak FL9's operated on the NEC, and the answer is "sort of." The FL9s operated north out of Penn Station on trains like the Empire Service. Just as a temporary source of power before the P32s were built. But the FL9s were subject to frequent mechanical issues.

Also, What ever happened to the Turboliners?

Turboliners - they were fuel hogs plus had fixed consists. Reliability was also an issue. You also did not specify which versions as three different types saw Amtrak service.

The ones I'm referring to are the ones that operated in and out of GCT and later NYP Station.
