WASHINGTON — Amtrak plans to reduce most long-distance trains to three-day-a-week service as of Oct. 1, according to an internal message obtained by Trains News Wire.
In an internal “Service Update,” Amtrak Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing and Revenue Service Officer Roger Harris told employees today that the goal would be “to restore daily service on these routes as demand warrants, potentially by the summer of 2021.”

I think it is going to take a lot longer for intercity traffic to come back, on all land and air forms. Virus concerns, yes. But with the internet and Zoom, a need for many sorts of trips will be out the window.... And who will have tbe money for any sort of trip?
But Amtrak may want/need to consider addition service during the Nov. 15 to early January for the end of year holiday season
Had lunch yesterday with a friend who is an Amtrak Assistant Superintendent (and former engineer). He said that in the NEC they sell only half of the seats. At 50% they consider the train "sold out".
