We do a lot of manual switching of track. The scaletrax switches work ok. But they are a little bulky. Here was another method I tried just using magnets to hold the switch in place.

Thanks, very interesting.
You call that "thinking outside the box."
Very simple, elegant, and unobtrusive. Great thinking outside the box!
Great idea - i may have a place for using one of those.

Very clever, indeed. Thanks for taking the time to shoot the video and post it for our collective benefit.
I like it eh!
Awesome idea. Where do you get the magnets ?

I like it!
What are the magnets attracting?
Are the points steel?
That is a very clever idea. I bet that makes them non derailing too. I thought the video was nicely done as well.
Thank you,

Mine were left over from a crashed RC plane. Most RC planes have magnets to attach hatches and canopy's. Almost any RC hobby shop will carry them.

The throw tie on scaletrax has a metal end. Here is a Picture.

Great idea Ron. I love rare earth magnets as they are very powerful for their size and are useful for many projects. I have used them for example to hold boxcar doors that won't stay shut.
Very innovative Ron.
Dang, Dad is the same reason I have a dozen boxes of scrap wood in the garage. I toss it all away at least once a year and still never have a lack of it.
What is the force rating on the magnet?
BRILLIANT!!!! Why didn't I think of that? Probably cause I don't have any switches.

I got this from one of the forum members. kjmagnetics.com
For the folks who were asking about their strength/pull capabilities, they have that info on their web site, and sizes/dimensions. Everything you would ever want to know about Magnets, is on this site...................................Brandy!
