Does anyone know the frequency of trains on this line? I'll be visiting the area early next year. Regarding the accident, I'm most curious about the picture in the above link.

It looks like a still from the lead engines video but I doubt that any downloading has already been processed and released. So did the photographer climb on the derailed cars to get that image?

I can't tell for sure but it looks like a rear-ender. Glad only two minor injuries.

The frequency is high. This happened about 30 miles north from where I live. More activity at tight starting around 5pm, well that's how its been lately. This is the same line that the Tropicana train runs on its way in and out of the state.

The phosphate train originates by me from the the Mosaic Riverview plant on 41. The yard is full of cars that are used to haul, would fill most fallen flag rosters. My favorite are the cars with the reporting marks of NOKIL. Same as the Juice train which originates south of me. The coal train passes by me ending at the the big bend power plant.

OK that makes sense now. I usually see the cars coming from the plant around 9am in Gibsonton same days. 

From the photos, it looks like the coal train was taking the siding but hadn't cleared the switch when the phosphate train hit it, so thankfully, it wasn't a head-on. Those aluminum coal tubs crumpled like empty sofa cans! Surely the crew of the phosphate train were in need of linen upgrades, glad there were not serious injuries.

CSX runs a lot of trains on the line between Jacksonville FL and West Palm Beach FL. Most of the cars we drive here in southeast Florida come down by CSX bi-level auto transport cars to a place west of Indiantown FL. 

It's sad to see an accident on a railroad. Could somebody have been on their cell phone? The accident in upstate Florida affects both freight and passenger service as Amtrak uses that route to come from Jacksonville FL to Miami FL.

Also on the news yesterday in West Palm Beach area there was a pedestrian hit & killed while walking down the Tri-Rail/CSX tracks in West Palm Beach area.

Does CSX need more railroad police?

Lee, speculation about cell phones does a huge dis-service to the crew.

Also, you can put railroad police every 1/4 mile on the tracks and some Einstein with earbuds is still going to get run over by trespassing on railroad property.
