Recently came across the Ozark Mountain Railcar web site and found a photo of the "Adolphus" observation car that was listed for sale.  The photo of the car was under listed Passenger Equipment for Sale or Lease part of the web site and the car depicted matches the K Line 18" model that I have on my layout

I was under the impression that this passenger car, one of two unique models built in 1954 by the Wabash shops in Decatur, Illinois, had been scrapped.

Does anyone have current information concerning the "Adolphus"?

The car does exist.   But it is in pretty rough condition.   The fluting has been removed for quite a while.  If you can access the Ozark Mountain Railcar website, there are photos of it now, with semi-rusty sides and the note that it is not on appropriate trucks, but those trucks are available.  Amtrak used the car (I think in 1970's) as a business car for a few years.  This would be a huge project.

I took a look at it too and for $40,000 it's way too much of a project (not that I have the ching for it anyway).  From my limited experience at a RR museum I've seen way too many of these where someone thinks they're going to renovate it and rips *everything apart only to be overwhelmed by it.  Bite sized chunks is such a better way to go ... If you're going to update the kitchen don't start by ripping the bedroom apart.  You're still going to need a place to sleep.  It only works for "This Old House" because they have a much bigger crew with specialized subs.
