Barry,

Four of us plan on attending the dinner and meeting.

i was wondering if it would be possible for someone to mention any of the more common problems with the new wifi module. I myself have only one slight issue- the plus sign too near to the the maximum (120) speed. One has to be careful or lower the max speed before operating.

Another question.

When running variable voltage in dcs, using rev 4.3, the track voltage starts out at 5 volts.  Is there a way to make it start out any lower?  I like to occasionally use a marx commodore vanderbilt using the variable voltage feature, and it tends to take off like a rocket at 5 volts.  some of my more modern equipment also takes off rather fast at 5 volts.

John,

Is there a way to make it start out any lower?

Yes, there is, using DCS 4.30 or DCS 5.0.

You can set TIU tracks to start as low as 1 volt by using the MTV soft key on the remote's TRK screen for either a single TIU Track or for ALL TIU Tracks.

This and a whole lot more is all in The DCS Companion 3rd Edition", available for purchase  from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at OGR’s web store!

Barry,

I plan to attend.  First time at York.  Hoping to have my layout up and running this year after several years on the shelf after a move.  Already have my TIUs and WIU upgraded.  Looking forward to the meet.  One of my interests is figuring out how to create an interactive track plan display on a touch screen to work with the Wifi.

JOIN US FOR THE 21st YORK DCS USER GROUP MEETING  - AT THE WYNDHAM GARDEN, FORMERLY THE HOLIDAY INN CONFERENCE CENTER  - AKA THE HOLIDOME!!!

Make your plans now to attend the 20th Semi-Annual York DCS User Group Meeting!

!!! WE WILL BE DOING COMPLIMENTARY UPGRADES TO THE LATEST DCS RELEASE RIGHT AT THE MEETING !!!

!!!! WE WILL ALSO, FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME, BE DOING COMPLIMENTARY DCS WIFI (WIU) FIRMWARE UPGRADES RIGHT AT THE MEETING!!!!

The meeting will be in this newly remodeled hotel on Wednesday evening, April 13, 2016. This location allows over 150 attendees to be comfortable during dinner and presentations.

I’ll be your host for the meeting along with Marty Fitzhenry. Don Klose has, once again, graciously agreed to be our scribe for the evening.

Altland House, the owners of the hotel, will again cater our meeting. Due to popular request, we will have cafeteria-style service. You will be able to purchase your dinner via a cafeteria line as you enter the meeting room.

Entrees will include meat loaf and turkey, both with side items, a vegetarian entree, sandwiches, desserts, and soft drinks. All sales will be cash, no credit cards. Alcoholic drinks will also be available

Whether you're contemplating installing MTH's DCS on your layout or you are already a DCS operator, this is your opportunity to meet with other DCS enthusiasts over dinner to swap ideas and discuss the absolute best way to run trains!

As in the past, MTH executive management will be in attendance to discuss the company’s plans for DCS, and to answer all your questions about DCS, PS2/PS3 engines or anything else MTH. Also, MTH will be providing copies of their new 2016 Volume II O Gauge Catalog at the meeting. Be among the first to get your copy!

If you're already operating DCS and desire more information, or you're just interested in learning more about DCS from some of the OGR Forum's resident experts (mostly self-proclaimed!), this is the place to be.

If any of you were kind enough to donate to my retirement fund by purchasing a copy of The DCS O Gauge Companion, I’ll be available to autograph your printed copy of the book or any optical media that contains the eBook edition.

The
Wyndham Garden Hotel is located at 2000 Loucks Road.

From Interstate 83, take US 30 West (Lincoln Highway) to PA 74 (Carlisle Avenue). Go right approx. 1/2 mile to Loucks Road. Turn right onto Loucks Road. The Wyndham Garden Hotel will be approx. 1/4 mile ahead on the right.

Please refer to the map below if you’re not familiar with the area.

 Map to Wyndham Gardens

We've reserved one of the hotel's ballrooms so that we can have privacy and handle a larger crowd. (Check in the lobby to see which ballroom we’re in.) Although the venue can accommodate more than 150 people, be sure to reserve your place as soon as possible - the group gets larger every meeting!

If you're planning to attend, please be certain to post your intention on this thread so that we can provide the caterer with an accurate head count. Alternatively, you can instead E-mail me directly using the address in my profile.

Please note the following schedule of events:

  • 5:30 – 7:00 Several of us will be upgrading TIUs and remotes to the latest release of the DCS software, and we will also be doing remote cloning for those of you who need it.

Additionally, for the very first time, we will also be updating WIUs to the latest Firmware!

IMPORTANT: If you would like us to update your WIU, please be sure to bring the power adapter with you!

There will be no charge for this service! So if you're a bit skittish about upgrading your own DCS software, or cloning your remotes, or updating your WIU firmware, this is a great opportunity to both get it done for you and to learn how easy it is to do it yourself in the future. Make sure that you have fresh batteries in your remotes!

  • 5:45 – 7:15 Dinner will be available.
  • 7:00 – 8:00 “Ask a Beta Tester!”

We’ll have several DCS beta testers and other DCS experts on hand who will endeavor to answer all of your DCS operational questions in a “town meeting” format.

Questions can include how a particular DCS feature or function works, how to do something in DCS, problem resolution, or any other DCS topic. The feedback we’ve gotten from past meetings was that this informal Q&A session is extremely well-received and is something that you won’t want to miss, so plan to be there and bring your questions!

  • 8:00 – ??? MTH will provide us with a look into their product roadmap and answer questions from the OGR Forum about DCS, PS2, PS3, and the company’s other products.

If you have any questions for MTH please submit them in advance to make sure that they get asked and answered, and to allow time for MTH to conduct any necessary research. You may either post questions on this thread or E-mail them to the address in my profile.

The cut-off date for questions is the end of the day, Sunday, April 3rd so that MTH has enough time to prepare answers.

Upgrading DCS sets and WIU firmware, and cloning of remotes will be done by Marty FitzhenryBob Snyder,  Pat Marinari and Jimmy Queenan.

Again, if you're planning to attend, please be certain to post your intention on this thread so that we can provide the caterer with an accurate head count. Alternatively, you can instead E-mail me directly using the address in my profile.

Note that it would be a good idea if everyone who attends wears their York ID "badge" to introduce themselves.

I look forward to meeting with as many of you as can be there for an evening of camaraderie, great food, great conversation, great information, and lots of fun!

Barry,

My wife and I will attend. Thanks for continuing this useful meeting.

Dan and Brenda

Wally, as to your second question, you can either find a friend who'll do it free , find a hobby shop who'll probably charge if they can do it , or--the best way-- learn to do it your self.  It is easy with the new loader program which has step-by-step instructions on screen.  If you want a detailed explanation, post a request over on the DCS forum.
